New sports and exercise route through Tinga district (Sneek) and surroundings

A game of basketball, a round of outdoor fitness, or improving a PR on the running route. At the new sports and exercise route in the Tinga district, you can now exercise outside every day. By unveiling the starting sign, Alderman Bauke Dam opened the sports and exercise route on Wednesday afternoon, July 6. Then Ferenc Soepboer, Dutch Boxing Champion and resident of the municipality of Súdwest-Fryslân, took all the children present on an energetic workout along and over the exercise equipment.

Sports and exercise route

The sports route ‘Sneek Beweegt’ has four different routes, distances and activities that start at the sign next to the Community School Duinterpen in the Tinga district. Alderman Bauke Dam: “A Multicourt has been installed at the Duizendblad location, where young people can play football, basketball and other sports. At the same time, this offers an active hangout for the youth. One of the routes can also be run as an athletics route and along the Street Workout route there are all kinds of sports and exercise equipment. So there is something for everyone.”

Exercising outside is healthy

In recent years, public space has become increasingly important for active forms of recreation. Outdoor sports is an accessible way to get active for young people, adults and the elderly. The municipality considers it important to design the living environment in such a way that it invites everyone to play and exercise outside. Bauke Dam continues: “The past corona period has once again emphasized the importance of sports and an active lifestyle, especially outdoors. How wonderful it is that this sports and exercise route has been realized together with the Tinga district in the past year. Sport is healthy, it brings people together and creates a positive feeling. Come and try the varied routes.”

Website and QR codes indicate the route

Everyone can use the routes, which are suitable for all ages, free of charge. The routes are also wheelchair accessible. The multicourt is specially adapted to this. The website provides additional information about the routes and the devices. By scanning QR codes at various places along the course, users receive instructions for exercising. The Neighborhood Sports Coaches are committed to informing local residents and other users about the possibilities in the area and how this contributes to a healthy lifestyle.

Development and financing

The sports and exercise route on and around Tinga sports park was set up by HCL project management from Burgum in close collaboration with the municipality of Súdwest-Fryslân. The Tinga district panel, local residents and sports associations are closely involved in the development. The financing of this project was made possible by the municipality of Súdwest-Fryslân, the Province of Fryslân, the Jumbo and a contribution from the Wijkcentrum De Spil through a subsidy from the Old Burger Orphanage Sneek.
