With ZYNC, Mercedes-Benz takes in-car entertainment to a new level

The two companies aim to provide the first customers with a digital, vehicle-optimized entertainment offering by the end of this year.

Mercedes-Benz Group AG is a collaboration entered into with ZYNC† California-based tech company provides Mercedes-Benz with the world’s first integration of its premium platform for digital in-car entertainment† By merging a wide variety of third-party digital content on the turnkey platform, ZYNC forms the perfect interface between the content partners and the existing compatible Mercedes-Benz hardware† The aim of the collaboration is to provide customers with a seamless digital entertainment experience perfectly matched to Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Through ZYNC, Mercedes-Benz customers have access to a wide range of renowned global and local streaming services† The first European integration of ZYNC is planned for the end of this year in the EQS and S-Class† The rollout in other models and countries is planned for 2023.

The partnership with ZYNC leverages and maximizes the benefits of the advanced UI/UX of Mercedes-Benz infotainment systems, such as the MBUX Hyperscreen† Content aggregation means that ZYNC integrates third parties on its platform once. The highly scalable cloud-based platform is optimized for the low latency times of Mercedes-Benz vehicle hardware.

In practice, customers will have access to an ever-expanding range of streaming services. The page layouts are optimized to maximize the visual quality and resolution of each infotainment system and associated screens. In line with Mercedes-Benz’s software strategy, the ZYNC platform offers best-in-class video rendering, with adaptive bit rates and minimal need to cache data on vehicle hardware. In addition, the ZYNC platform is compatible with various DRM formats (Digital Rights Management)

Future of in-car entertainment with focus on road safety

When developing in-car entertainment and visual content, Mercedes-Benz focuses on road safety. The collaboration with ZYNC is no exception. When a vehicle is in motion, streaming services are limited to, for example, the front passenger or rear passenger screen, or only audio playback is possible – always in accordance with local regulations. Looking to the future, Mercedes-Benz is ready for the use of video streaming while driving, once approval for highly automated driving according to SAE Level 3 is granted.
